Environmental Science

Welcome to my Environmental Science Blog. Feel free to reach me if you need to at bpalmatier@govwentworth.k12.nh.us or call my school phone extension at 659-5130.

Environmental Sciences is designed to give the student a basic understanding of ecological concepts and the structure and function of ecosystems. Additionally, the relationship of man and the environment is studied using local, regional and global environmental issues and solutions as a means of building environmental ethics and awareness. The goal of this class is for students to be able to make the connections between what we as a society do and the impacts theses decisions on the world as a whole and their local environment in particular.

The class is a heterogeneous classroom where each student must decide which academic level they are going to take the class at. The emphasis is for students to push themselves with the awareness that if for whatever reason it becomes necessary for the student to change their level they can do so without fear of reprisal or judgement.

In the course of learning about the environmental issues we as a society currently students will be going outside to the farther reaches of the school campus and on at least one occasion leaving the school campus to conduct field research. As a result of working around weather conditions a semester long field trip permission slip is required for students to be able to participate in these sampling trips.
